Dr Graeme A. Flynn has more than 25 years’ experience in aerodynamics and wind engineering, spanning the construction and aerospace industries.
Prior to founding Urban Microclimate Ltd. in 2014, Graeme's previous role was as Director of Microclimate for one of the UK’s largest multi-disciplinary consultancies, where he was responsible for design consultation and Environmental Impact Assessment for wind and natural lighting effects.
Prior to this, he spent over 10 years with a leading international wind engineering consultancy, heading the company’s Wind Microclimate and Stadia group, which also included daylight and sunlight consultancy services.
Graeme's work has included wind tunnel testing, numerical modelling and desk-top studies on stadia, tall buildings, building complexes and masterplans; from initial concepts and pre-app support, through the planning process and on to the detailed design stages, and included expert application of national Standards and compliance with best practice. This included leading both the PM and technical aspects of the wind engineering on many iconic and technically challenging projects such as the main stadium and velodrome for the London 2012 Olympics and the European Extremely Large Telescope Enclosure in Chile.
However, it is his expertise in wind mitigation for buildings, EIA and planning support that most frequently benefits our clients. Through his work, Graeme has been at the forefront of developing modern approaches to EIA for wind microclimate, particularly with regards to efficient scoping and the additional complexities of large hybrid and outline applications. Graeme has also provided expert witness testimony at public hearings.
